How to distinguish when laziness is a normal property of a person, and when it is a sign of illness told on Thursday, August 13, in an interview with radio Sputnik, a psychiatrist-psychoanalyst, a member of the Paris Psychoanalytic Society, an associate professor at the Center for Psychiatry. Serbian Pavel Katchalov.
The feeling of laziness is inherent in humans and is sometimes even the engine of progress, pushing people towards many inventions aimed at making life easier. Laziness even affects languages, the expert noted.
“That a person is a lazy creature is known, for example, by language researchers. They deduced a pattern in the evolution of all languages that as languages live and develop, people begin to be lazy with the pronunciation of complex sounds. Because of this, we simplify them from generation to generation, ”he explained.
According to the psychoanalyst, usually laziness is a normal protective reaction of the body to excessive work, which “too energetic people sometimes try to impose on themselves and others,” and gives the opportunity to “wait, change your mind, and part of the work loses its relevance.”
However, there is also a completely different type of laziness. In this case, a person not only does not want, but cannot do anything, he cannot force himself to act. Then we are most likely talking about depression, the expert noted, and you need to seek help from a psychiatrist.
“Now there are many antidepressants that can help with depression. Any person who has suddenly changed and ceased to resemble his former self, suddenly became unable to make the simplest efforts, such a person should be advised to seek help from a psychiatrist or help from antidepressants, ”said Kachalov. He added that if it becomes a recurring problem, treatment will help.
Earlier, the representative of the International Society for Research in Nutritional Psychiatry Felice Giaca said that a balanced diet can effectively fight depression and help reduce anxiety.
