Other European countries have already taken similar measures. France reserves the vaccine for people aged 55 and over, and Italy, Germany and the Netherlands for those over 60.

According to data updated on Sunday, Portugal had 1.3 million people who had received at least one dose of one of the COVID vaccines. Almost 580,000 of them, or about 6% of the population, have already received the second dose.

Heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic at the start of the year, the country was able to curb contagions thanks to strict general containment which began to be gradually lifted in mid-March.
