Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ranked Russia among the enemies of the United States. On the air of Mark Levin’s radio show, the diplomat also noted that Moscow allegedly poses “a risk for all who love freedom.”

“I am asked all the time who our enemy is, and the answer is this: there are many who want to undermine our way of life, democratic principles. Russia is definitely on this list, ”Pompeo said.

It is noteworthy that usually politicians and other officials admit the phrase “enemy”, but not the enemy. In addition to Russia, China was listed as a threat.

In addition, Pompeo has once again accused Moscow of involvement in cyber attacks on the United States. However, he did not provide evidence. Russia flatly denies the charges.

Commenting on Pompeo’s words, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, noted that the enemies of the United States are American politicians themselves, who by their actions undermine not only the internal foundations of American society, but also spoil relations with various countries.

On December 17, Thierry de Montbrial, executive president of the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), noted that the West would not abandon the image of Russia as an enemy. In his opinion, this is due to the need to justify the existence of NATO.

The specialist pointed out that, most likely, the US Congress will continue to try to increase the sanctions pressure on Moscow.

At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly pointed out that Western countries scare their residents with a non-existent “Russian threat” in order to build up forces on the border with the Russian Federation.

Moscow is open to dialogue, but will make efforts to defend itself.
