Poll: Half of men in Russia believe that women are better off not working

The poll showed that about 50% of men in Russia believe that women are better off not working. This opinion is shared by 22% of Russian women.

According to a survey by Otkritie Bank, 45% of women and only 28% of men are sure that a woman is obliged to work. These respondents believe that this gives them mandatory financial independence. 33% of women and 24% of men are sure that it is necessary for self-expression. At the same time, 36% of Russian males and only 19% of Russian women believe that a woman should work only as a last resort, if there is no other to provide for herself and her children. Also, 3% of Russian women and 11% of Russians said that a woman should deal exclusively with family and children.

More than half of the men surveyed (55%) believe that the main role of a woman is to be a mother and guardian of the hearth. Regional differences are visible here. Most of all, this opinion is shared by residents of the North Caucasus and the Volga Federal District (up to 64%). Least of all this position is supported by men from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region (38%), as well as in the northwest (43%).

But 37% of women consider motherhood and household as their main purpose. At the same time, the majority of women (51%) believe that they have the right to decide for themselves what role in society will be the main one for her. So think (67%) of people in St. Petersburg, and in the Northwestern District (62%) and the Far East (60%). In the Moscow region, 54% of women adhere to this point of view. Least of all women reserve the right to choose a social role in the Southern Federal District (46%).
