The pipe-laying vessel Akademik Chersky, after anchorage near Kaliningrad, again arrived at the construction zone of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This is evidenced by the data of the global vessel positioning system MarineTraffic as of January 6.
In early December, the ship was already in the area of the Danish island of Bornholm, where the unfinished section is located. After that “Akademik Chersky” went to the roadstead of the Curonian Spit near Kaliningrad, where he spent almost a month.
In addition, the Russian supply vessel Umka is located next to the pipelayer, transporting pipes from the shore. The supply vessel “Ivan Sidorenko”, designed to supply pipes during the completion of the gas pipeline, is also at the pipe storage for the gas pipeline in the German port of Mukran.
The pipe-laying barge Fortuna, which was involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2 in German territorial waters in December 2020, is currently moored in the German port of Wismar.
In late December, project operator Nord Stream 2 AG, using the Fortuna pipelayer, laid one of two unfinished pipeline sections in German waters. Laying of the last unfinished section in Danish waters is scheduled to begin on 15 January.
Nord Stream 2 is being built from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The United States, the Baltic states, Poland and Ukraine are opposed.
