The coronavirus cannot be considered more contagious than the flu. This was announced on July 29 by the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Education Gennady Onishchenko.
“It cannot be said that this is a very contagious infection, because the count goes only to tens of millions, and not hundreds of millions,” Interfax reports.
Onishchenko noted that “hundreds of millions” fall ill with influenza, while “only 16 million” patients with COVID-19 have been identified in the world. He noted that “once in the last 10 years,” 900 million cases of influenza have been identified.
Earlier, on July 26, Onishchenko said that the characteristic symptoms of a complication of the coronavirus – the disease COVID-19 – are difficulty breathing, loss of smell and touch, which is uncharacteristic for flu.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, 828,990 cases of COVID-19 have been registered, 620,333 people have recovered and 13,673 patients have died.
