The requirements for the production, transportation and storage of ammonium nitrate in Russia are among the most stringent in the world, said the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association (RAPU).

“The effectiveness of these measures is evidenced by the fact that over the past 20 years in Russia there has not been a single incident in the production, transportation and storage of ammonium nitrate,” the association said in Telegram on Wednesday, August 5.

The RAPU also added that they will monitor the development of the situation in Beirut and, if necessary, will take into account the conclusions when forming a common position for the members of the association on the development of the industry.

The explosion occurred on August 4 in the area of the seaport of the Lebanese capital. The facades of several buildings located in the immediate vicinity of the site of the emergency collapsed, houses and offices were damaged. As a result of the incident, about 300 thousand people were left homeless.

According to Prime Minister Hassan Diab, the explosion was caused by improper storage of ammonium nitrate weighing 2,750 tons in a warehouse in the port.
