Atlanta-based Orkin, a residential and commercial rodent-control company, has unveiled a list of the 50 cities with the largest rat populations. New York in this list took the least honorable third place, passing ahead to the top of the list of Chicago and occupying the second line of the list of Los Angeles. The first five “most rat” cities are closed by the capital of the country Washington and San Francisco.
The company has compiled its ranking list of major cities in the country based on the number of calls to its employees to eliminate new rodent detection sites between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020. Both residential and commercial calls were taken into account.
In a press release, the company notes that the number of rats has increased, in part because the closure of many restaurants and businesses due to the coronavirus pandemic has deprived rats of some of the waste sources they feed on and forced them to intensively search for new ones. At the same time, according to a press release, “rats are exploring new places and often show increased aggressiveness.” The company believes that the activity of rats and mice will increase with the onset of the winter cold, and they will begin to move to warm places – in residential and commercial premises.
