Muscovites were asked to choose a name for the new station of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of the Moscow Metro. This was announced on Wednesday, March 24, on the website of the Moscow Mayor’s Office.

Voting started on the Active Citizen portal. We are talking about the station, which will open at the intersection of Marshal Zhukov Avenue with Narodnogo Opolcheniya Street in the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki area.

The press service of the mayor’s office noted that during the implementation of the project, two options for the name of the future station were considered: “Karamyshevskaya” and “People’s Opolchenie”, according to the TV channel “360”. The first option is associated with the Karamyshevsky line of defense in Moscow, the second – with the memory of the people’s militias, writes “Moscow 24”.

It is noted that the design of the station was dedicated to the people’s militia of 1612, 1812 and 1941, writes the Federal News Agency. In addition, not far from the future station is Narodnogo Opolcheniya Street and a monument to the heroes of the militia.

The mayor’s office said that BCL is the largest project in the history of metro construction in Russia and one of the most ambitious in the world. The construction of the BCL began in 2011. The first section from Delovoy Tsentr to Petrovsky Park, which had five stations, opened in winter 2018. The total length of the line will be 70 km, it will include 31 stations, the Moscow city news agency notes.

On March 10, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin started tunneling in the eastern section of the BCL. According to him, the tunneling of the Big Circle Line (BKL) of the Moscow metro will be completed in 2021. The mayor noted that four more tunnels are to be drilled, located on the eastern section of the BCL from the Kashirskaya station to the Nizhegorodskaya station.

In January 2021, it was reported that 11 more metro stations would be opened in Moscow over the next year.
