The Russian capital in the ranking bypassed Athens, Rome, and Paris, according to the website of the mayor of the capital.
According to IQAir data, the highest average annual PM2.5 concentrations for 2020 were recorded in cities in East, Southeast and South Asia. The highest rates are in Delhi (India), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).
On the portal of the mayor of the capital, it was noted that the targets of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the annual content of fine particles in 2020 exceeded about half of European cities.
At the end of January, the Beijing Environmental Monitoring Center reported that air pollution in the Chinese capital exceeded the WHO norm by almost eight times. The main sources of smog in China are transport, coal-fired power plants and metallurgical plants.
In early January, it became known that the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, topped the list of cities in the world with the most polluted air in the ranking, according to the World Air Quality rating. Kabul came in second, Nepal came in third.
