Moscow court arrested Russian in treason case

The Lefortovo court of Moscow chose a measure of restraint in the form of arrest of Russian citizen Sergei Kabanov in the case of high treason. This was announced on April 28 by the press service of the court.

“With regard to Kabanov Sergei Sergeevich, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention until June 28, 2021,” the message says.

The Federal Security Service charged Kabanov with high treason. The materials of the case against the accused are not classified, the press service of the court told TASS.

According to Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, according to which an accusation was brought against a suspect, treason means the issuance of information to a foreign state, international or foreign organization or their representatives that constitutes a state secret, a confidant or that has become known to him in service, work, study or in other cases provided for Russian legislation.

In addition, the provision of financial, material, technical, consulting or other assistance to a foreign state, international or foreign organization or their representatives in activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation is also considered treason.

The article provides for a penalty of 12 to 20 years in prison.

Earlier, on April 13, it was reported about the arrest of a Russian citizen Valery Golubkin, an employee of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, on suspicion of treason.

In relation to the suspect, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of detention until June 12.
