More than a thousand Ukrainians were affected by the AstraZeneca vaccine

1,043 people were injured after being vaccinated against coronavirus with a drug from AstraZeneca, the state expert center under the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on social networks on Tuesday, April 27.

“The automated pharmacovigilance information system has received 1,045 reports of adverse events following vaccination. 1043 cases [побочных эффектов] after 470,680 doses of Covishied vaccine; 1 case after 33,338 doses of CoronaVac vaccine, 1 case after 24,012 doses of Comirnaty vaccine, ”the agency said.

At the same time, Ukraine refused to register the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. According to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, it is difficult for him to explain to citizens why Kiev does not want to buy the Russian vaccine.

On April 21, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal said that the country’s government is extending the emergency regime and quarantine measures until June 30. The politician said that the emergency primarily concerns state authorities and their preparedness to counter the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

On April 19, Zelensky demanded the creation of a laboratory in the country for the development of vaccines and drugs. He added that for its creation this year, UAH 100 million (about 270 million rubles) was allocated in the state budget.

Vaccination with Covishield produced in India, developed by AstraZeneca in cooperation with Oxford University, began in Ukraine at the end of February this year. At the same time, 60% of Ukrainian doctors refused to be vaccinated due to distrust of this drug. At the end of March, the first batch of 215,000 doses of CoronaVac from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech arrived in the country.
