At least 21 people have died as a result of poisoning with counterfeit alcohol in several localities in the Indian state of Punjab. This was announced on Friday, July 31, by the NDTV channel.

The first five deaths, according to local police, were recorded on July 29 in the villages of Mukchal and Tangra.

State Governor Amarinder Singh has commissioned an investigation into the emergence of dangerous alcoholic beverages. Anyone found guilty, according to the official, will be severely punished.

It is noted that the police have already detained suspects in the sale of low-quality alcohol.

On July 19, it was reported that a resident of the Omsk region would be tried for poisoning 13 people with alcohol. The man sold low-quality alcohol to his fellow villagers. Seven people died from poisoning, six more were injured.
