The Belarusian authorities promised to organize a meeting of Russian diplomats with the detained Russians by the end of the day. This was announced on Friday, July 31, by the Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev.

“Today, three Russian diplomats, consuls of the embassy will be provided access to one of the penitentiary institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic to meet with our Russians,” the diplomat said.

According to him, the demand of Ukraine to extradite the detainees was not discussed at the meeting with the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. The Russians were transferred to a penitentiary institution with more comfortable conditions of detention, the diplomat added on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel.

Earlier on Friday, the head of the Investigative Committee of Belarus allowed the consul to visit the Russians.

The Belarusian media this week reported on the arrest of 32 employees of a foreign private military company (PMC) near Minsk. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Andrei Ravkov said that some of the detainees had “Ukrainian origin and also have Ukrainian citizenship”.

The events were allegedly associated with the arrival of more than 200 people in Belarus “to destabilize the situation during the election campaign.” The detainees were suspected of preparing a terrorist attack, a criminal case was opened against them.
