Five brothers have been arrested in India for forcing a man to march naked through the streets of their locality, as a punishment for accusing them on Facebook of involvement in criminal activity, local police said on Wednesday.

Police said the 38-year-old man was abducted by the brothers on Tuesday, then beaten and forced for 45 minutes to march, naked as a worm, through the streets of Khambhaliya town, in the state of Gujarat (west).

“An investigation revealed that the victim (…) regularly broadcast live videos on Facebook,” police spokesman Hirendra Chaudhary told AFP.

“Sunday in a video broadcast live on Facebook (the man) brought serious charges against the five brothers saying they were involved in criminal activity,” he said.

The brothers were charged with unlawful forcible confinement, assault, use of force with intent to dishonor a person, criminal conspiracy, obscenity, among other offenses.

Local police added that the victim himself has been repeatedly convicted of gambling and alcohol offenses, activities banned in Gujarat, the home state of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
