President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that last night law enforcement officers had to protect not only the peace of the townspeople, but also representatives of the joint headquarters of the opposition.
“They were gathered in one office, plus some other opposition journalists – about 60 people in total,” Belta quoted Lukashenka as saying.
The Belarusian leader added that a message came from the headquarters that a crowd had gathered around and they asked to be protected.
“I instructed the KGB to immediately send the most powerful servicemen and secretly take control of this office so that, God forbid, they do not kill someone: a sacred sacrifice was needed,” Lukashenko said.
“We defended them all night and are still in control of the situation,” the head of state added.
