The editor-in-chief of the Dozhd TV channel, Tikhon Dzyadko, said that the journalists detained in Minsk worked in the presidential elections in Belarus without accreditation.
According to him, all the necessary documents were submitted to the Foreign Ministry of Belarus for accreditation on time. The editors requested confirmation every day, but never received it.
He also stressed that while it is impossible to say that the journalists were detained precisely because of the lack of accreditation. According to him, it is not even known who detained them.
In his Telegram channel, Dzyadko noted that journalists can be in the main department for combating organized crime and corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
Meanwhile, the Union of Journalists of Russia has already demanded that Minsk explain the reasons for the detention of Dozhd’s journalists. They also demand to name their whereabouts, according to the Union’s website.
Earlier it was reported that the correspondents of the Russian TV channel “Dozhd” were detained in Minsk on the day of the presidential elections in Belarus. They are Vladimir Romensky, Vasily Polonsky, and also cameraman Nikolai Antipov.
