The general secretary of the Russian Boxing Federation Umar Kremlev, who has been elected president of the International Boxing Federation (AIBA), announced on Saturday the priorities for his new post.

He thanked the voters for the confidence and called for unity and reform in AIBA.

“Today’s choice of the boxing community is a confirmation of our joint commitment to the global reforms that await AIBA tomorrow. I am confident that by joint efforts, we will be able to return AIBA to its former greatness and trust of all those interested in the development of world sports in the shortest possible time, ”the words of Kremlin are quoted on the website of the Russian Boxing Federation on December 12.

The top priority for the federation will be to pay off the multimillion-dollar debts accumulated by its previous presidents.

He noted that he is going to raise $ 50 million in two years, which are needed to restore and develop the boxing federation.

The Kremlin also plans to provide $ 2 million in annual funding to the AIBA national federations and to create boxing academies on every continent to train athletes, coaches and judges.

He expressed confidence that he will be able to chart a clear path to restore AIBA’s recognition status in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Earlier on Saturday, the Kremlin was elected president of AIBA. He won 57.33% of the votes at the organization’s congress.

The head of the Ministry of Sports Oleg Matytsin expressed hope that the International Boxing Federation, headed by the Kremlin, will make progress in development.

“I hope that under the leadership of Umar Kremlev, AIBA will also achieve great progress in development and will be able to unite all national federations to solve existing problems,” the press service of the department quoted Matytsin as saying.

The Minister of Sports noted that the Kremlin will be able to carry out the necessary reforms, “make the organization’s activities transparent and settle all the differences between AIBA and the International Olympic Committee.”

Former world champion Grigory Drozd told TASS that with the arrival of the Kremlin to a new position, amateur boxing will begin its revival.

Drozdov called it “a very big success” for boxing and for the country, noting that a year ago “they could not have thought that a Russian could lead AIBA”.

“Let’s hope that with the arrival of Umar, Olympic, amateur boxing will begin its revival and the way out of the peak he got into. Umar will do everything quickly and efficiently, as he can, ”the former boxer concluded.
