The evidence collected by the investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Vladimir Region was recognized by the court as sufficient for the conviction of a 23-year-old resident of Kovrov. The court found the young man guilty of a traffic violation, which inadvertently resulted in the death of two people.

The investigation and the court established that on the evening of September 4, 2019, the accused, driving a BMW 320D car, was moving through the village of Melekhovo towards Kovrov. The carriageway on which he was driving had two-way traffic.

Approaching the unregulated pedestrian crossing marked with signs and markings, the young man drove into the oncoming lane. At the same time, he did not take into account that another car, which stopped in the right lane in the direction of its movement, let pedestrians pass.

Not convinced of the safety of his maneuver, the young man continued to move at a speed of more than 91 km / h, as a result of which he hit a 13-year-old boy and girl, who at that moment were crossing the road along the above-mentioned pedestrian crossing.

Children received injuries incompatible with life.

The Kovrov city court sentenced the man to 4.5 years’ imprisonment and the deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 2 years and 11 months.

The court also satisfied the civil claims of the victims for a total of 3 million rubles, according to the press service of the regional Investigative Committee.
