As a result of the US elections, there is no clear and convincing winner, said Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs. He expressed this opinion on Saturday, November 7, on his Facebook page.
“There is a rift and conflicting societies about how they see America of the future. Whoever wins, he will not have the full moral right to say that all of America is behind him, ”he said.
Thus, the politician commented on the forecasts of the leading American media, according to which the Democrat Joe Biden won the US presidential election. In accordance with these forecasts, Biden has already been congratulated by many European politicians and heads of state. Biden’s rival, incumbent President Donald Trump, in turn, said that “the elections are not over yet,” and he will defend his position in court.
The US electoral system assumes that the candidate with the most American votes may not always be the winner. The fact is that the choice of the head of the country rests with an electoral college of 538 people representing their states. The number of electors from each state is equal to the number of representatives of the state in Congress. In elections, electors must vote for the candidate who previously won in their state, but there is no law binding them to this.
