Football players Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamaev came to the Moscow City Court on Friday, where they will consider their appeal against the verdict passed on May 8, 2019. This was reported by the Izvestia correspondent from the courtroom on July 31.
It is noted that both came in a good mood, but they are silent about compensation.
“We hope for justice,” Kokorin told reporters.
When asked about the transfer to Moscow “Spartak”, Kokorin said: “First the trial, then football.” The day before, the athlete signed a contract with this football club.
The REN TV channel published footage of Kokorin, surrounded by journalists, entering the courthouse.
Pavel Mamaev, Alexander Kokorin, his younger brother Kirill and their friend Alexander Protasovitsky attacked the driver of Channel One host Vitaly Solovchuk on October 8, 2018, near the Peking Hotel, beat him and damaged his car. Then the company moved to a cafe on Bolshaya Nikitskaya, where they beat up the official of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Pak and the general director of NAMI Sergey Gaisin.
A criminal case was opened against them under the articles “Hooliganism” and “Beatings”, later reclassifying it to the article “Deliberate infliction of minor harm to health.”
On May 8, 2019, the Presnensky Court of Moscow sentenced all the accused to real terms of imprisonment. Mamaev and Protasovitsky received 1 year and 5 months in prison, the Kokorin brothers – 1 year and 6 months.
The Moscow City Court on June 13 of the same year changed the verdict to all the persons involved in the case: Mamaev and Kokorins were released in September, Protasovitsky in November.
However, on May 14, 2020, the Court of Cassation found violations in the verdict in the case of Kokorin and Mamaev. The case was returned for the correct qualification of the actions of all the defendants
In particular, the cassation instance found it unreasonable to recognize all four defendants guilty of hooliganism in connection with the actions against Park. The Moscow City Court did not fully assess the testimony of witnesses in the episode about the beating of Solovchuk.
