Last Tuesday, at a meeting of the Committee on Healthcare and Social Policy of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia, parliamentarians discussed two bills, thanks to which residents of the republic aged 65 and older have a chance to receive a lump sum payment. On the first bill – 10 thousand rubles, on the second – 20 thousand rubles.

According to the authors of the initiative, this will help make life easier for older people in a pandemic, offset costs that could have increased due to prolonged self-isolation. For example, spending on utilities and medicines could grow.

Deputy Valery Shottuev emphasized that such assistance should be provided only to pensioners whose pension is below the subsistence level.

By decision of the committee, the bills were sent to the conclusion of the head of Karelia.
