US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Tuesday, January 12, plans to publicly accuse Iran of collaborating with the Al-Qaeda terrorist group (banned in Russia) on the basis of declassified documents from American intelligence. It is reported by Reuters, citing sources.

According to them, Pompeo intends to accuse Tehran of supporting the terrorist group, as well as providing refuge to its members.

In addition, the US Secretary of State may report on the details of the liquidation of one of the leaders of Al-Qaeda last August, based on US intelligence data.

On November 13, The New York Times wrote that one of the leaders of the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization, Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, was killed in the Iranian capital.

Earlier, on January 5, the United States expanded its sanctions against Iran to include several steel companies on the list.

In early December 2020, the US administration listed Iran’s representative Hassan Ayrule in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, which is currently controlled by the Ansar Allah rebel movement (Houthis), as well as the Iranian Al-Mustafa International University on the list of individual sanctions on Iran.
