In Kabardino-Balkaria, the investigating authorities have begun an investigation into the death of two climbers who disappeared more than a week ago after climbing Elbrus. This was reported on the website of the regional investigation department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.
According to the pre-investigation check, on April 10, a group consisting of a guide born in 1962 and a female climber born in 1986 began climbing Elbrus from the northern slope. The last time the group was contacted on April 21, their descent was hampered by weather conditions.
Now investigators are trying to find out the circumstances of the incident, forensic examinations are planned.
The discovery of the bodies of two climbers became known the day before.
It was reported that on April 21 they were supposed to go to the Azau glade. When the climbers were contacted for the last time, they said that they were 200 m from the summit, however, due to bad weather conditions, they had to “bury themselves in the snow for the second night.”
The search for climbers was carried out by employees of the North Caucasian regional and Elbrus high-mountain search and rescue teams of the EMERCOM of Russia.
