The Investigative Committee of Belarus is checking information about the rape of women in temporary detention facilities. This was announced on August 20 by the department, TASS reports.

“On various sites on the Internet, information has appeared that there are women victims of sexual violence in temporary detention facilities in hospitals in Grodno, as reported by gynecologists on condition of anonymity,” the department said on its Telegram channel.

Information about citizens injured in riots and as a result of detentions is promptly transmitted by medical workers to the police, the UK added.

Earlier on Thursday, the head of the Belarusian Defense Ministry, Major General Viktor Khrenin, announced outside interference in the internal affairs of the republic. According to him, the development of various options is forecasted.

In Belarus, after the presidential elections on August 9, protests do not subside. People took to the streets of the country who did not agree with the voting results. According to the Central Election Commission, Alyaksandr Lukashenka became the winner in the struggle for the post of head of state for the sixth time.

During the protest actions, the police detained about seven thousand people, many complained of beatings in the isolation wards.

On August 17, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus announced that almost all those detained in cases of administrative offenses for participation in unauthorized mass actions were released.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus, Yuri Karaev, previously took responsibility for the injuries of random people at the protests and apologizes.
