Intermittent fasting has been shown to be ineffective against belly fat, writes Eurekalert.

During the study, Australian scientists observed how switching to intermittent fasting affects the health, metabolism and size of body fat in several specially fed mice.

Experts have found that due to lack of food, subcutaneous fat “melted” the fastest. At the same time, analysis of the activity of proteins and genes showed that fat cells in the abdomen quickly adapted to the periodic lack of food.

“This explains why many diets have little effect on him (belly fat. – Ed.)” – said researcher at the University of Sydney Mark Larence.

The authors of the study intend to study the molecular mechanisms that protect the deposition of belly fat from wasting. Thanks to this, it will be possible to create or select medicines and food supplements for fast weight loss.

Earlier in February, Australian nutritionist Leanne Ward said that losing weight requires an active metabolism, and with fasting and dieting, it slows down.

According to the expert, sometimes, in order to lose weight, you need to eat more, get rid of a calorie deficit and even add a few pounds in order to lose weight again later.
