In the United States, a court sentenced the daughter of billionaire Edgar Bronfman, Claire, to six years and nine months in prison for her connection with the sex cult NXIVM.
Claire Brofman admitted that she harbored a person who lived in the country illegally for the purpose of sexual exploitation. In addition, she spoke about the credit card fraudulent transactions carried out on behalf of the head of NXIVM Keith Ranier.
According to Bronfman, Ranier’s teachings allowed her to overcome “self-loathing, insecurity, shame and fear” and that thanks to NXIVM, she was able to find friends who became her family, CNN reported Wednesday, September 30.
A federal court in Brooklyn sentenced the 41-year-old woman to 81 months in prison, while prosecutors recommended 60. It is noted that Bronfman has been under house arrest for the past two years.
Keith Runier founded NXIVM in the late 1990s, which offered paid training for personal and professional growth. However, women who bought such seminars were turned into sexual slavery, branded with the initials of the leader of the organization, extorted money and experimented with them.
In addition, women were required to provide incriminating information and nude photographs in case they broke with the organization.
In January, the head of a religious sect operating under the guise of women’s seminars for Orthodox believers was detained in Israel. He was accused of keeping 50 women and their children in slavery.
