Drivers in the Moscow region were asked to refuse to travel by private transport and change to public transport until the end of the week due to snowfall. This was announced on Wednesday, February 10, by the press service of the regional Ministry of Transport.

According to the Minister of Transport of the region, Alexei Gerzhik, snowfall can lead to difficulties on the roads, so before the end of the week, motorists near Moscow are better off switching to public transport. He noted that the road services have been switched to a mode of intensive work in order to ensure comfortable traffic on regional roads, according to the TV channel “360”. Now on the main highways of the region, specialists carry out preventive treatment to prevent slipperiness.

The regional Ministry of Transport asked pedestrians to wear reflectors, to be careful on railway tracks, not to cross the road outside the zones of pedestrian crossings, and at crossings to make sure that the traffic light is on and there are no approaching cars, the Moscow city news agency notes.

According to forecasts of meteorologists, the heaviest snowfall in the past few years is expected in the Moscow region from 11 to 14 February. Up to 80% of the monthly precipitation will fall, and the snowdrifts will grow up to 50 cm. The wind with a blizzard will reach up to 20 m / s. Ice and heavy drifts are possible on the roads.
