Five police officers were detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of extortion of money. This was reported on August 13 by TASS, citing a source in law enforcement agencies.

“Five employees were detained. According to operational information, they demanded money from a girl who was stopped while looking for a bookmark with drugs, ”the message says.

The police also reportedly threatened the girl that they would plant drugs on her if she refused to pay.

The agency has not yet provided official comments from law enforcement agencies.

Earlier in June, it was reported that a group was detained in St. Petersburg that extorted money from people. One of the suspects turned out to be a police officer.

According to the investigation, the suspects demanded money from the townspeople, threatening to spread defamatory information.
