SEOUL | Dozens of cows found themselves stranded on rooftops after the floods in South Korea, forcing the authorities to carry out a perilous operation to rescue them.
Trapped by the rising waters caused this weekend in the rural locality of Gurye (South) by torrential rains, the cattle managed to take refuge in several buildings.
But when the water flowed back, the cows had no way of getting back down on their own.
“The cows swam when the water level rose and reached the roof where they remained after the water came down,” a resident told JTBC.
The rescuers had a crane come to bring down the animals one after the other.
South Korea is in the throes of severe flooding following weeks of torrential rainfall. At least 31 people have been killed since the beginning of the month in the floods or in landslides.
