The Government of the Russian Federation announced the timing of the experiment on the labeling of biologically active additives (BAA). The corresponding decree was signed on Tuesday, May 4.
“To conduct from May 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022 on the territory of the Russian Federation, an experiment on labeling with identification means of biologically active food additives,” the document says, published on the Internet portal of legal information.
As the head of the Pharma product group of the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT) Yegor Zhavoronkov emphasized, the organization works with manufacturers of additives. The experiment, according to the expert, will be voluntary.
“As part of the experiment, optimal technical solutions will be developed, including the use of existing equipment and the integration of information systems. By introducing nutritional supplements labeling and reducing illegal turnover, conscientious manufacturers will be able to increase their market share and, accordingly, their profits, ”Zhavoronkov noted.
He added that the labeling process involves more than just applying a code: it allows you to track the entire chain of movement of a product from the manufacturer to the counter. Such a measure will exclude food supplements of dubious origin and quality from hitting store shelves.
In Russia, on April 1, an experiment began on labeling biologically active food additives with identification means. However, the traceability system did not include products that enter the country in international parcels.
