In Russia, 7975 new cases of COVID-19 were detected per day

In Russia, over the past day, 7975 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in 83 regions. This was reported at the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus infection on Wednesday, May 5.

Most of all new cases were detected in Moscow (2432), St. Petersburg (711) and Moscow region (601).

During the day, 360 deaths were recorded, 7506 people fully recovered.

In total, to date, 4,847,489 cases of coronavirus have been identified in the country in 85 regions. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 111,895 people have died from COVID-19, 4,464,550 patients have recovered.

On the eve of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko said that the situation with coronavirus infection in the country remains tense. He called for decisions to ease restrictions in the regions, taking into account the current epidemiological situation.

The head of the department also stressed that the formation of collective immunity to coronavirus and active vaccination of citizens, especially those at risk of severe COVID-19, remains an important task, Gazeta.ru writes.

On May 1, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, noted that a deterioration in the epidemiological situation could occur if the country’s residents did not follow the necessary rules: use antiseptics, wear masks and gloves.

According to her, at the moment the situation with COVID-19 in the country is in “a rather fragile balance.”

Currently, a large-scale vaccination against COVID-19 is underway in Russia, it began on January 18. The vaccination is given free of charge to everyone. Three vaccines against coronavirus have now been registered in the country: Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona and KoviVac.
