Investigators opened a criminal case into the death of a worker who fell from the roof of a plant in Magadan. IA MagadanMedia was informed about this in the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the region.

It is preliminary established that on April 16, 2021, two workers fell down from the roof of the plant, which was being repaired. One of them, a 48-year-old man, received various injuries from which he died on the same day in a medical facility. The second victim, at the age of 20, is in a hospital in serious condition.

Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of labor protection requirements, resulting in the death of a person by negligence”). The prosecutor’s office recognized the initiation of the case as legal.

The regional prosecutor’s office clarified that the management of the subcontractor responsible for the work did not provide all safety and labor protection measures. The perpetrators are now being identified. They face up to four years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing.

On April 26, it was reported that a 24-year-old worker was killed at a copper and sulfur plant in the city of Mednogorsk (Orenburg region). The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case.
