Ukrainian diplomats in Italy found a “falsification” of the history of Ukraine in one of the school textbooks, Glavred reported on February 2.
The textbook, the newspaper notes, indicates that Crimea became part of Russia after the referendum, and Donbass became autonomous due to the ethnic dispute between Ukrainians and the Russian minority.
According to “Glavred”, the Ukrainian embassy appealed to the Pearson publishing house, the country’s Ministry of Education and the author of the textbook with a request to correct the text.
The publishing house expressed regret because of the current situation and noted its readiness to jointly discuss the content of textbooks on topics related to Ukraine.
The embassy called on Ukrainians to participate in this work and report the facts of falsification of Ukrainian history in school textbooks.
“Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine” – this is the approach we plan to use in relations with publishers, which are responsible for the textbooks issued together with the author and the academic community, “the embassy said on Facebook.
Earlier, on January 28, during a meeting to prepare for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the withdrawal of Crimea from Ukraine a “terrible mistake” that needs to be corrected.
According to him, the international summit “Crimean Platform” initiated by Kiev on “regaining control” over the peninsula will become a platform to rally international partners advocating for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
In response, the head of the Crimean regional German national-cultural autonomy, Yuri Gempel, said that in 2014 Crimea returned to its historical homeland, “having completely corrected the mistake,” and called on Zelensky to stop deceiving the inhabitants of Ukraine in this matter.
Relations between Moscow and Kiev have deteriorated since the coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014. Donbass did not recognize the new government, declaring independence, and Crimea, after a referendum in which the majority of residents spoke in favor of reunification with Russia, returned to the Russian Federation.
96.77% of the inhabitants of the peninsula and 95.6% of the voters of Sevastopol supported joining the Russian Federation. The procedure was carried out in strict accordance with international law.
Kiev did not recognize the results of the vote and is making plans to “return” the peninsula. Moscow regularly points out that the referendum was held in compliance with all international norms and the question of the ownership of the region is closed forever.
