For the sale of apartments in unauthorized buildings, an Astrakhan was found guilty of twenty crimes under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the materials of the investigation, from 2015 to 2018, a man built two apartment buildings on the territory of the Trusovsky district in the city of Astrakhan without obtaining the necessary documents and permits. After that, he began to sell apartments in them, although he knowingly knew about the illegality of the buildings. Several townspeople entered into a purchase and sale agreement and paid 13 million rubles ($ 1.2m), the prosecutor’s office of the Astrakhan region reported.
The man could not fulfill the obligations under his contracts, since he knew about the impossibility of registering ownership of the apartments. He just spent the money he received from the buyers.
Astrakhan was accused of fraud and opened a criminal case. The day before, the court considered it and sentenced the man to 10 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony on the basis of cumulative crimes.
