During an attack by IS militants (“Islamic State” – a terrorist organization banned in Russia) on Tuesday, July 28, at an army checkpoint near the city of Hit in Anbar province west of Baghdad, the commander of one of the brigades of the 7th Infantry Division of the Iraqi Army was killed and officers. This was reported on Wednesday by the news portal Shafaq news with reference to a statement by the Joint Operational Command of the country’s Armed Forces.
According to the military command, the attack originated from the desert, Brigadier General Ahmed Abdel Wahid al-Liami was killed during the pursuit of extremists, and the lieutenant was killed during a terrorist attack by radicals. The statement also says that two soldiers were injured, while according to sources of the portal in the security forces, the actions of the terrorists took the lives of three Iraqi officers.
Earlier in the day, Iraqi border guards were ambushed on the border with Saudi Arabia, resulting in one of them killed and four injured.
On July 22, a convoy carrying supplies for American troops was blown up south of Baghdad.
After the defeat of the IS group (banned in Russia) in Iraq, which was announced by the authorities in December 2017, attacks, including terrorist attacks and other attacks, began to decline. Meanwhile, the security forces, with the active help of the Shiite formations of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, continue to carry out operations in different parts of the country to destroy the terrorist underground, whose militants are still carrying out attacks on law enforcement officers, the army and civilians.
