On Monday morning, the Central Election Commission of Belarus announced the preliminary data of the August 9 presidential election, according to which the current leader of the state, Alexander Lukashenko, is gaining 80.23% of the vote.
The day before, protests of those who disagree with the election results began in Minsk and in a number of other cities of Belarus. More than 120 people were detained that day. Belarusian law enforcement agencies used tear gas and stun grenades against demonstrators in Minsk, and it was reported that a van hit the protesters.
The Investigative Committee of Belarus has opened criminal cases over the riots.
