This giant recall was initially launched in January in the United States on nearly 700,000 cars of the group, before reaching 3.18 million vehicles in total worldwide in March.
The fuel pump on affected vehicles is likely to stop working, which can lead to sudden engine shutdown and lead to accidents.
Toyota “continues to investigate” internally the origin of this large-scale failure, according to the spokesperson.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Toyota shares fell 0.82% to 6,838 yen at 02:30 GMT, on a flagship Nikkei index down 0.67% at the same time.
