Despite the strict quarantine in order to combat the pandemic, it is allowed to stay in hotels in Baden-Württemberg in case of visiting relatives at Christmas, who do not have enough living space to accommodate guests. Stays in hotels for family reasons are explicitly included in the regulations as cases of necessity, – said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health dpa.
“We are reporting this so that it is clear to the public order that staying in hotels when visiting relatives is allowed.” A fire in the house or other serious breakdown that makes it impossible to stay in an apartment is also considered a necessity for hotel accommodation. Business travelers traveling around the country for business purposes, as before, can spend the night at the hotel.
Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that the indulgence allowing hotel accommodation is associated with a greater risk of infection and transmission of the virus. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia, like Bavaria, has already canceled previously allowed accommodation in private hotels as part of family visits for Christmas. Families are also prohibited from staying in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein.
Hotels in Berlin, Bremen (planned), Hamburg (planned), Hesse, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt are open to guests, in case of visiting relatives. The issue in Rhineland-Palatinate, Saar and Thuringia has not yet been resolved.
