While the federal government, through the head of the Chancellor’s Office Helge Braun and Health Minister Jens Spahn, calls the Corona warning app an important tool in the fight against the spread of the pandemic, doctors and epidemiologists working in ministries practically do not use the development in their work.
The data used by the application is stored locally and is not automatically sent to health authorities, this tool, in its current form, “does not help us very much in effectively combating and preventing the occurrence of coronavirus outbreaks,” said Ute Teichert, head of the Federal Association of Medical Physicians, reports Media Funke group.
Teichert stressed that the app “plays almost no role in the daily work of the German health authorities”. Even at a time when the number of infected people is growing, it is “extremely rare” for an application user to contact the authorities after receiving a warning through the application. Politicians have put the protection of personal data of residents of the country above protection against a pandemic. “We have to accept this fact.”
Federal Minister Jens Spahn said nearly 5,000 users were alerted to a positive contact test result. If the number of users of the application increases, there will be many times more warned about the danger. Thousands of users can be notified of a possible infection. Thus, the risk of transmission of the virus and an increase in the number of infected will be reduced by a thousand times.
