An especially large number of young people have contracted Covid-19 in recent weeks, according to an assessment by insurance company Barmer. The Rheinische Post was one of the first to report this. Accordingly, the number of corona-related sick leave for those under the age of 39 increased by 31 percent between June 21 and July 18. For those over 40, the increase in the incidence of coronavirus was significantly lower – only one percent.

According to the study, there are significant regional differences. In particular, in the southern states of Germany, the number of sick leave associated with the crown increased again during the period indicated, and in North Rhine-Westphalia it even decreased. In Hesse, growth was 19 percent. “The danger of a second wave is clearly growing more and more,” said Barmer board member Christoph Straub. He urged young people not to ignore the danger of coronavirus and to adhere to the rules of respiratory hygiene.
