The number of tests in Germany has increased recently. You can pass them not only in long-running test centers, but also at airports and on the autobahns after crossing borders. The several times increase in the number of tests for a new type of coronavirus in Germany leads to the fact that laboratories do not have time to process all the tests taken.
In the current “Epidemiological Bulletin” of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), for the week of August 10-16, laboratories reported that they were not able to process 17,142 samples. How many of them are positive, and whether they exist at all – one can only guess. 41 laboratories reported problems with reagent delivery. Problems can lead to delays in the timely notification of the infected and their contact persons, and therefore to the adoption of the necessary measures to protect the population, carried out by the authorities.
Recently, the number of newly diagnosed infected people has increased significantly. In part, the rise in positive tests is due to the imposed obligation to test travelers returning from risk areas. According to the RKI, 578,000 tests were performed in the 31st calendar week from July 27 to August 2. Two weeks later, their number exceeded 875,000. For comparison, in the week from April 20 to April 26, the number of tests was 364,000.
