The number of infected in Germany has been growing lately. Epidemiologists from the Robert Koch Institute have found that most often, people become infected privately, at parties. Some federal states require uniform rules for private celebrations regarding the number of guests invited.
However, not all federal states are in favor of a single rule, arguing that the epidemiological situation in the states is too different. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate believe that a common guest boundary for family celebrations, birthdays or weddings is essential to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“If we understand that the personal responsibility of citizens is not enough to keep the pandemic in check, we will have to introduce more restrictions,” the Minister of Social Affairs said. Baden-Württemberg Manfred Lucha. Due to the increase in the number of infected, the tightening of requirements for holding private parties does not exclude Bavaria. “We are very closely and with concern following current events – the increase in the number of infections and new sources of danger,” said the head of the State Chancellery responsible for coordinating the fight against coronavirus, Florian Herrmann.
Hamburg intends to continue to pursue a “cautious course”. The celebration in private premises in the Hanseatic city is currently allowed to invite 25 people. The rented premises serving alcohol can accommodate a maximum of 50 people.
IN Lower Saxony a wedding, baptism or funeral may not be attended by more than 50 people. The state government of Lower Saxony is in favor of a single federal settlement, but only if it does not lead to a relaxation of the relatively stricter rules in their own federal state. Rhineland-Palatinate and Bremen also open to general regulation.
However Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reject this initiative. “At first glance, a nationwide solution may seem beneficial, but it does not take into account the often so different development of infection in Germany,” – said a spokesman for the government of Schleswig-Holstein. Up to 50 people can be invited to private parties in this federal state. There are only 25 in Hamburg, 500 in Berlin.
In a videoconference on Thursday, the prime ministers of the federal states want to discuss the matter with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
