The tougher mask regime introduced by the federal and state governments obliges residents of the country to wear medical masks in shops, churches and on public transportation. In Bavaria, since January 18, there is a requirement to wear not just medical masks, but FFP2 masks. From January 25, law enforcement officers may charge fines for non-observance of the mask regime.

The tightening of the mask regime has been in effect in Bavaria since January 18. In accordance with the new rules, residents of the country are required to wear FFP2 masks on public transport, in churches and shops. Shopkeepers are not allowed to admit citizens who are not wearing FFP2 masks.

For violation of the mask regime, a fine of 250 euros will be charged. If law enforcement officers noticed that a person is wearing a mask, but it does not correspond to the permitted ones, the fine will be issued for a smaller amount, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said. In addition to FFP2 masks, FFP3, N95, P2, KF94, DS and KN95 masks can also be worn in public places. In the remaining 15 federal states, surgical masks must be worn in public places. FFP2 masks are also welcome.
