Distance learning harms the health of schoolchildren and causes poor quality education. Even those who attended school during the pandemic did not study as much as they did before the coronavirus.

Britta Ernst, Chairperson of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Culture (KMC), considers one of the top priorities to issue graduates with full-fledged equivalent graduation diplomas, despite the pandemic. The current situation is quite possible to pass the exams. Some Länder have already indicated that applicants will be able to start writing tests later than usual. “Our goal is to give children a high school diploma in 2021, equivalent to all previous and next years.”

This also applies to high school diplomas. According to the politician, graduates should be able to attend full-time lessons even at a time when schools are closed for a long time. The federal states should decide on the phased reopening of schools depending on the situation, says Ernst. The general rule for all in matters of children’s education is not the best solution to the problem.
