Germany is gaining momentum in vaccinating the population against Covid-19, but vaccine shortages remain a problem amid rising new infections SARS–CoV-2 in the country and in the European Union. In this situation German media comment on reports of a possible purchase of a Russian vaccine “Sputnik V“.
When purchasing and using the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, one should be guided by only two criteria, the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper is sure: the effectiveness and safety of the drug. Everything will become easier if you discard the other factors, the publication says. “First, Sputnik must pass the check of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). If a permit is issued and the quality of production is guaranteed, then the order of this vaccine and its production in the European Union cannot be disrupted for ideological reasons.”
“Doubts about the quality of Sputnik V have not yet been completely dispelled. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is awaiting full information from vaccine manufacturers for admission to the EU, ”says the Wirtschaftswoche newspaper.
The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) is proposing to maintain a pragmatic approach.
A vaccine is a vaccine. This should not be forgotten in the issue of admission and purchase of the Sputnik V developed in Russia. So far there is no reason to consider it less effective than similar Western developments, as there are no political reasons to refuse its use just because it was not developed in Germany , England or the United States, continues the FAZ newspaper.
