Germany has a large number of rapid tests. In the near future, in order to combat the coronavirus pandemic, they can be used to quickly identify infected people in nursing homes, clinics, schools, as well as after identifying cases of infection. Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn’s decree governing the use of rapid tests will take effect this week.
An important change that comes into effect after December 16. For everyone who returns or simply enters the country from risk zones abroad, tests for coronavirus can only be done for their own money, the dpa agency reports. The opportunity to take a free test to enter the country will end on December 15th.
Rapid tests in Germany are now available in large quantities. Their advantage is that the taken smears do not need to be sent to the laboratory, which will somewhat defuse the situation. However, experts emphasize that antigen tests are not considered as accurate as PCR tests, which require laboratory analysis. It is important that rapid tests should also be performed by trained medical personnel. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recommends that in case of a positive rapid test result, a PCR test is performed.
