The coronavirus vaccine in Germany is primarily administered to residents of nursing homes. However, in one institution in the town of Emstek (Cloppenburg district), five residents of a nursing home died due to infection with coronavirus, despite being vaccinated.
Residents of the nursing home received the first and second vaccinations against the virus, – said the representative of the district. The second vaccination was given on January 18-19. It should be recalled that protection against Covid-19 does not develop until two weeks after the second dose of the vaccine. Before that, a person is vulnerable in the same way as before vaccination.
Infection with the virus is possible despite vaccination. A vaccinated person encounters the virus in the same way as an unvaccinated person. The only difference is that he already has antibodies. Coronavirus enters the body mainly through the nose, from there through the mucous membranes – into the blood. The body of a vaccinated person reacts to a stranger, antibodies destroy it, a person does not get sick, or suffers a disease in a mild form. “The immune system of residents of nursing homes is often weakened due to age or due to concomitant diseases,” – said a spokesman for the regional authorities. The institution itself for the elderly has not yet commented on the sad incident.
On February 2, a test was carried out in the main part of the institution. 3 employees and 15 residents have tested positive for the virus. A day later, on February 3, 79 employees and residents in the annexes were examined – all test results were negative.
