After an increase in the number of infections, the German government declared the Canary Islands, and therefore the whole of Spain, a risk zone. To date, travel warnings have been for the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands, but not for the Atlantic archipelago.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has announced that Spain has been declared a risk area following a joint analysis and decision by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Along with Spain, another district of Croatia was declared a risk zone. Now the administrative region of Zadar is included in the updated RKI Red List. Travel warnings have previously been issued for the Šibenik-Knin regions, including the Krka National Park, and Split-Dalmatia, and the port city of Split, as well as the islands of Brac and Hvar.
Once a region is considered a risk zone, the Foreign Office usually issues an official travel warning to the region. Those entering from the risk zone must actually do a coronavirus test and self-isolate until they receive a negative test.
