The 8th annual international music and art festival “Ostern & Klassik” was held in Hamburg from 9 to 18 April. Children under the age of 18 took part in it. Thanks to the new format of the competition, they got the opportunity, without leaving their city or even their country, 15 master classes were held within the framework of this festival, two large competitions: an art competition called “Awakening” and a music competition for young performers of all musical categories, which gave everyone an opportunity to present their creative work in all its diversity.

On April 9th, the first concert was organized on the digital platform Zoom. All participants and organizers were greeted by: Boris Solomonovich Zilberberg – Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Russian Compatriots in Hamburg; Dr. Horst – Chairman of the public organization “Landesmannschaft der Deutschen aus Russland”; Arkady Bizer is a music producer, jury member, and many others. The audience enjoyed the children’s live performance at home. And the very next day, April 10, the first day of the competition took place.

This year the music competition was held in two stages. The first round was held remotely. Thanks to the responsible approach and training of the participants, as well as their parents and teachers, the videos were partially recorded in concert halls or simply at home in concert performance by children. This made it possible for all the organizers-jury and spectators to forget about the unusual living conditions for a while. According to the results of the first round, about 80 (!) Children from 5 countries were promoted to the second.

April 10-11 were long and stressful days for all the contestants. After the competitive performance of young musicians, the jury could immediately speak with the participants, praise or recommend something to them. This is what gave many an incentive for the further development of their musical abilities.

The support of the competition by Professor of Music Irina Mints was a great honor to the festival. The best pianists received her personal books as prizes. Arkady Bizer again invited the best of the best to his studio for sound recording. Teacher Fyodor Erfurt and his student Daniel Ott received invitations to the TV show “Klassik Sternchen & Co” on the TIDE channel from TV presenter Marina Vasilieva. Arthur Bakalin plans to release several radio programs with the participants of the competition.

The musical part of the festival was attended by classical and modern vocalists. Grand Prix in classical vocals was won by 8-year-old Arina Kravtsova from the Orenburg region, and pop vocals were won by Yulia Pospelov from Hamburg. Chamber duet Zhenya Freeman (vocals) & Emilia Erfurt (piano) from Geestach. In the piano department, the winners were Mahimilian Brestel from Hamburg and Diana Papikiyan from Moscow. Wind instruments were also presented: clarinet, bass clarinet and flute. The Grand Prix went to Daniel Ott (saxophone) from Ammersbeck. Children of the string department from Hamburg delighted us with active and worthy participation. Celadonia Huang 6 years old and a chamber duet Paula Ebeling & Leontina Schweinbegr received the highest points. It was not an easy matter to evaluate worthy performers.

On April 10, 11 and 17, in parallel to the music competition, various master classes were held, which were organized by Viktor Yokhanzon. Musicians Fedor Erfurt, Silke Fiedrich and Marika Lapauri-Burg shared their musical secrets with the younger generation. And Artists Paul Zeigel, Xenia Barberon, Valeria Sergienko and Varja Caly took the participants to the fantastic and magical worlds of art.

The surprise of these busy days was the presentation of painting with sand by Olga Dubovskaya and the culinary course of the head chef of Hamburg, Constantin Heidrich.

The festival program was very eventful.

On April 13th, the youngest artists were able to enjoy the live broadcast via Zoom. On April 15, a family concert was held, in which children-musicians and their family members took part. On April 16, there was an opportunity to watch the performance of children from other countries.

As usual, there were some Audience Choice Awards. It has become a good tradition of the end of the festival. Due to the large number of people wishing to participate in the concert, 2 concerts were organized at once on April 17 and 18.

On the last day of our festival, a concert of the winners took place.

The results of the art competition were announced by Olga Klyaimenova. The jury chairmen of each music department also shared their musical results. All participants received well-deserved gifts and certificates by mail, and the winners were awarded with cups.

The purpose of the event was to unite and introduce the younger generation to the world of art. Teach children to see and hear the world. Also, support creative educators and give them the opportunity to present their work. We thank Bezirksamt Wandsbek Hamburg for financial support. Many thanks to the leaders of musical groups, the jury and everyone who supported us. We congratulate the participants on their victory and today we invite everyone for the next year to our Easter holiday-festival! Join and enjoy the art with us!

Every year, on the occasion of Catholic Easter, Hamburg hosts the Ostern & Klassik music and art festival, initiated by the public organization Klassische Musik und Kultur für Kinder eV Chairwoman Lyudmila Bakalina.

This time the festival was successfully held in a new online format for everyone. It was a great experience not only for the young participants, but also for the administration of the festival. The decision to hold the festival online allowed expanding the geographical scope, as a result of which several countries (Germany, Russia, Iceland, France, Israel) took part in the festival. The work was in full swing for ten days, starting with the grand opening, continuing in the excitement and emotionality of young artists during the competition days.

Festival participants took an active part in organized online concerts and master classes. The art competition “Awakening” has responded with great popularity in the hearts of the participants.

It should be noted the difficult task of the jury members, who supported the novice musicians with warm words, wise advice, fair criticism and kind smiles. In the final concert, they shared the results and successes of all the children. Young talents are rewarded with certificates and gifts that they received by mail.

In conclusion, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the participants of the festival and their parents, organizers, teachers and members of the jury for the excellent opportunity to plunge into the world of music, art and beauty.

Elena Dorfman – member of the festival jury, music teacher.
